Celebrating Success Series #2: Dr. Gladys Ngetich: Kenyan award-winning aerospace engineer

Dr. Gladys Chepkirui Ngetich is a 29-year-old Kenyan-born award-winning Aerospace Engineer, Researcher, Speaker, Author, and Sports Enthusiast. She obtained her Ph.D. in Engineering Science – Aerospace from the University of Oxford, UK in 2019. During her Ph.D., she researched efficient ways of cooling jet engines.

She was born in Amalo Village, Nakuru County, Kenya. She was admitted to the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, graduating with a BSc (first-class honours) degree in Mechanical Engineering and earning her a Rhodes scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. at the University of Oxford, UK.

Dr. Ngetich is passionate about utilising space technologies to support sustainable development goals. She is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Space Enabled Group (SEG) at the Massachusets University of Technology (MIT), USA under the Schmidt Science Fellowship.

She is also the co-founder of the ILUU, a Nairobi-based non-profit organization that aims to inspire, mentor and empower girls and women in Kenya.

In 2018, she was credited with a patent in collaboration with Rolls-Royce Plc.
