Haaland wins 2023 FWA Footballer of the Year award with record-breaking margin of victory

In a spectacular fashion, Erling Haaland’s exceptional debut season at Manchester City has resulted in him being honored as the Football Writer’s Association, 2023 FWA Footballer of the Year, setting an unprecedented record in the process.
Following his remarkable transfer to the Etihad Stadium in the summer, the City striker has showcased an extraordinary season, netting an astonishing 36 league goals in a mere 35 appearances, thereby establishing a groundbreaking record for the highest number of goals in a single campaign.
In recognition of his sensational achievements, Haaland was resoundingly chosen as the 2023 FWA Footballer of the Year, amassing an overwhelming majority of over 80 percent of all votes cast.
The prestigious award was presented to him during a ceremony on Thursday evening. Expressing his delight, Haaland acknowledged that his inaugural season had surpassed even his own expectations, as he notched an impressive tally of 52 goals across all competitions, with three games remaining in the season.
