The 2022 FIFA World Cup is officially ongoing after the opening ceremony and inaugural disappointing match to the host team, Qatar who lost to Equador on Sunday. The winners spoiled the home team’s party by handing them a 2-0 loss, and the result was never in question.

It only took four minutes of field action before a VAR controversy at Qatar 2022 after Ecuador’s opening goal was disallowed.

Enner Valencia , former West Ham striker appeared to have put the South American side ahead with a header following a free kick only for the referee Daniele Orsato to be told that there was an offside in the build-up.

It’s the first time in history a host nation has been defeated in its opening game and Qatar manager Felix Sanchez has his work cut out for him to lift the spirits of his team after the humiliating loss which saw fans leaving the Al Bayt Stadium in large numbers before the final whistle.
